I had the privilege of working with him for a while. City Museum of St Louis: Incredible 5 stories of climbable, slideable etc sculpture collaged out of found/recycled materials. One of the best places in the whole world, and the web site is great. I assume the bland name helps get grants. It's a sin to visit St Louis and not spend an afternoon in this place. The Watts Towers:Heroic feat of inspired found-object architecture/sculpture by Simon Rodia, an immigrant tilesetter who started building it at age forty and continued for thirty years. I made a pilgrimage to see this for real quite recently. I have yet to find a website that does it justice. Michael Christian: Fabulous sculptures, great site. WEARABLE ART FAVORITES Best. Hats. Everor skip the annoying flash website and look for him on Flickr. Claire Prebble: brilliant work from New Zealand. Wire lace in fantasy forms OTHER FAVORITES Peter Blegvad is a songwriter/musician, illustrator, cartoonist and writer. I often listen to his records while working. He has also written an essay "On Numinous Objects and Their Manufacture". Visit Tim Walters' Doubtful Palace, high atop Mount Vraidex. |
